I took a detour on my way back to Texas and drove through Glacier National Park. The highlight of the visit was the Road-to-the-Sun, which is a road that is literally carved into the side of a mountain. Not much room for traffic in both directions, which is reminiscent of some of narrow roads through the Alps. Quite breathtaking.
The one thing that I realized was that mountains look spectacular in infrared, as the above image shows. I’ve made it a point to start taking more mountain pictures in IR. Also, I used the difficult lighting (due to fast-moving clouds) to test out a new HDR photography package. Here is an example of what I was able to do:
Glacier NP is in northern Montana near the Canadian border. Not really “in the neighborhood” but if you can make it up there you won’t regret it.
